Online Photo Books

Photo books are meant to store your photos and preserve those precious memories forever. Here are some photo book projects tips.

Online Photo Books

If you are like many travelers, you will likely take many more photographs than you can easily store or sort. With the popularity of digital cameras, the tendency to snap photos of everything in sight is even greater. Often, photographs are left in files on the computer, and seldom enjoyed. Online photo books allow you to transfer images directly from digital media or computer files, meaning that your best photos can go directly into book format. You can then order as many copies as you want.

Another benefit of online photo books is that you can organize the book as you go, pulling images from various files without needing to sort through boxes, albums, or files full of prints, as you would need to do for a traditional scrapbook or photo album project. In addition, you can choose only the best files from your trip, meaning you can cut down on the number of duplicate images that often show up on albums featuring vacation or travel photos. Since you will be sorting and editing your photos ahead of time, the finished photo book will be a condensed and edited version of your favourite images, which can then be stored, displayed, and easily shared.

Making copies of best photo books is incredibly easy: simply order extra copies from the company providing the online photo book service. If your own project is fairly large, consider making a smaller book containing the highlights of your trip. A small format such as a 5" x 7" soft cover book is affordable, and can be ordered and shipped to family and friends.

When organizing your travel photos for your photo book, several things will help you cut down the time spent on organization, and will also keep your project unified. Before you begin, consider doing a "first cut" of favourite photos. If you were traveling with a group, or with friends or family members, have each person create a folder on the computer containing their favourite photographs. You can then compile a new folder containing everyone’s favourite photographs from the trip; this will reduce the amount of time spent searching for images or making editing decisions as you work on the photo book itself.

Once you get to work on the book layout, consider organizing some pages by theme and subject matter, instead of only placing images in the order they were taken during the trip. While many people organize their travel photographs chronologically, feel free to do a page or two of overall highlights, or images that were repeated several times during the trip. Some examples might include a collage of favourite photos of the travelers themselves, images of monuments, landmarks, sunsets, or particularly striking landscapes.

While your online photo book is a record of your trip, it can include personalized touches, humorous layouts, and images that stood out for good reason-or for no reason at all. Your photo book should reflect and celebrate you and your adventures, and does not necessarily have to be a photo-journalistic record of your travels.

Creative Photo Book Ideas

Friday, February 26th, 2010

People are buying professional photo books in order to preserve their most precious photographies. But here are some good tips on how to make your own photo book.

Creative Photo Book Ideas

Recipe Books: Why not gather your family’s favourite recipes and feature them along images of your favourite occasions and meals? Once a photo book is created, the completed file can be saved and shared, and printed on demand. Family members or friends can use the Internet to send photos and recipes back and forth. Contributors to the photo book can also scan recipes written out on recipe cards, and then send these to the person organizing the book. Graphic design shops or print shops may be able to scan images in bulk, for a set fee, if you need to save time. Scanning handwritten recipe cards means that you can preserve the personal feel of the recipe cards. This is particularly meaningful if the recipe has been passed down through several generations. Using online photo books to gather recipes together, you will be able to share these traditions with current family and friends, and preserve them for future generations.

Fundraising Projects: If you have a local charity or school that has a large upcoming fundraising event or project, consider offering to help by putting together a visual reminder of the event. You might also consider making the photo books into fundraising items themselves, which can be sold, and the profits donated to the featured charity. Ideas include: a photo album featuring pets, a recipe book with a special theme (this could be related to the charity, or else holiday themed, or focusing on healthy food choices). Another idea would be a nature journal, featuring local flora and fauna. Individuals associated with the organization or school can also be invited to take part in the photo album project as photographers or writers. For a fun twist, why not highlight local sights or landmarks. Young people could have fun identifying and then photographing humorous or distinctive landmarks such as signposts, doorways, gardens, or buildings. Be careful when using pictures of people; many schools or organizations require written permission from the individuals being photographed before the photos can be taken or used in print.

Books for the Wedding Party: Online best photo books are also ideal gifts to give to members of a wedding party; there is no need to use professional photographs in the books. You will find that many informal shots from the wedding-and preparations for it-will make beautiful additions to a photo book celebrating the event. Each project is unique. If you want to only include formal photos, you may want to ask one family member to be in charge of snapping formal photos at the same time the professional photographer does.

If the project is more informal, you might include pictures from the bridal shower, shopping and event planning, preparations on the wedding day, and casual photos of each member of the bridal party with the bride or groom. Including photographs of everybody when they were infants, kids, or teens is also a fun option. Use your judgment when including humorous photographs, since these photo books will be kept as mementos for years to come.
